A bag becomes more sustainable when its whole life cycle improves, not when one attribute is promoted in isolation. A kraft paper mailer may look natural, but it can be a poor choice if it needs plastic lamination for moisture resistance. Paper is often favored for consumer perception, printability and familiar recycling routes. It can be a strong choice for dry goods when the bag is uncoated or uses recycling-compatible coatings. But paper is not a universal substitute for flexible plastic. Moisture, grease, oxygen barrier needs and puncture resistance may require additional layers that make the structure harder to recycle.

The strongest packaging decisions combine design evidence with clear communication. A specific, modest claim will usually be more defensible than a broad claim that sounds greener but cannot be proven.
